Tales from the Overwhelm
A newsletter for those who see patterns in the chaos and wisdom in the overwhelm.
Hello Friends,
Do you ever feel like your brain operates on a different frequency?
While the world demands straight lines, my mind loops in spirals. It’s taken me 44 years to realise—that’s not necessarily a bad thing.
In a culture that prioritises speed and certainty over depth and curiosity, leaning into our messy creativity can be an act of quiet resistance.
What This Space Is About
This is a place for those of us learning that creativity and meaning don’t come from forcing order, but from embracing the mess—the overwhelm, the uncertainty, the deeply personal rhythms of intuition.
Ever since I abandoned The Artist’s Way years ago, I’ve been obsessed with the synchronicities that pop up in life. The little nudges. The invisible threads.
Just as nature repeats itself in fractals, so do we—looping through thought patterns, behaviours, and habits. The same playlist set to repeat for a lifetime.
Until we start paying attention.
The Patterns We Find
Failing to fit neatly into a niche.
Struggling to follow the prescribed systems.
Getting led astray by the ‘shoulds.’
Trying, failing, burning out.
It’s soul-destroying. And it has destroyed many brilliant, creative souls.
That’s why I believe in leaning into curiosity over control.
It’s about finding meaning in the mess. Recognising the wisdom in the overwhelm. Seeking out the patterns that find us—and using them to untangle the brain chaos into something resembling order.
Maybe productivity culture has a role to play in this. But if it does, it needs to be led by us. By our curiosity and intuition. Not rigid frameworks, but something fluid, seasonal, and shaped to how we actually work.
Who I Write For
I write for the over-thinkers, the pattern-seekers, the ones both fascinated and frustrated by the way their brains work. If that’s you, you’re in the right place.
I write these letters as a fellow square peg who spent years trying—and failing—to fit into a round hole. My ADHD brain thrives on deep curiosity, pattern-spotting, and unconventional ways of working. A strict schedule is my nemesis, but no schedule at all is just as dangerous.
I know it’s a bit of a cliché now—being a midlife woman diagnosed with ADHD. And maybe the diagnosis itself is just a symptom. A symptom of being a creative, sensitive human—crumbling under the dysfunction of modern life. Semantics, I guess.
But what I do know is this:
When I stop fighting the ‘shoulds’ and start noticing—the rhythms, cycles, and connections—I feel lighter.
Just noticing creates space to breathe.
That’s what these letters are: a place to notice, to reframe, to make sense of things in a way that actually works for how we think. A space to redefine productivity on our own terms. To learn to trust ourselves.
What’s Included in a Subscription?
A weekly letter every Friday (except August & December—because rest is part of the cycle).
Thoughts on working with (not against) the kind of mind that resists the usual productivity rules.
Reflections on intuition, synchronicity, and the patterns that reveal themselves when we slow down and look.
If you’re a sensitive creative drawn to these ideas, I’d love to have you here. There’s no pressure, no perfect system—just a conversation, a shared curiosity, a different way of seeing.
Maybe our brains do work on a different frequency.
But it’s our frequency. And the sooner we learn to tune into it, the better.
If any of this resonates, I’d love to have you here. Whether you read every letter or just drop in when something calls to you, this is a space for over-thinkers, pattern-seekers, and creative minds who crave meaning in the mess.
Let’s notice the patterns together.
Until next week.
Wishing you all a wonderful weekend.
