Hello Friends,
Happy Friday
Last week I moaned to you all that I needed a rest, and wouldn’t you know — the universe listened.
On Monday, I was lucky enough to experience something truly restful.
Many of you may already know (or have heard of) Helen and her inspiring venture: Albion Nights — an off-grid stay of dreams.
Until recently, Albion Nights was one incredible cabin. But after a lot of hard work — and a sprinkle of ‘getting filmed for a TV show’ accountability — Albion Nights now has two magical cabins.
Yes, Helen’s new cabin is a little bit famous: the build was followed by George Clarke’s Amazing Spaces and aired on Channel 4 a couple of weeks ago.
And honestly? She deserves her film star status.
She’s beautiful. Like something from a storybook.
Stepping into her feels like stepping back in time — back to somewhere simpler. Cocooned in warmth and comfort, sprinkled with magic.
You feel it, viscerally.
It’s a full-body, sensory trip to the past:
The smell of freshly sawn timber. The warmth of wood under your fingertips. The sound of leaves and birds, like an amphitheatre crafted by nature.
A completely immersive escape from the demands of modern life.
It’s wonderful.
As part of Monday’s visit, I also got to experience a sound bath by the incredible Ashlyn.
(Yes — the Ashlyn, whose gorgeous home hosted our book launch. A woman of endless style and talent.)
I’d never been to a sound bath before, and I’ll admit: I was apprehensive.
My mind immediately went to that viral clip of Alison Hammond having a fit of the giggles while Charlotte Church performed a sound bath live on This Morning.
Giggling at a sound bath — the woo version of laughing at a funeral.
Why is it that when we’re told to relax, our immediate instinct is to do the exact opposite?
But do you know what? I needn’t have worried.
The sound bath was utterly relaxing.
Lying on a blanket in the long grass on a beautiful spring day, surrounded by the harmony of the bowls, the rhythm of the breeze through the trees, the melody of birdsong… it was a gentle, restorative symphony.
And it got me thinking.
Rest doesn’t have to be complicated.
It can be as simple as lying on a blanket outside for a few minutes.
Yes, the sound bath was incredible — but even without it, the stillness would have been just as restorative.
We fall so easily into the all-or-nothing mindset:
I’ll only feel rested after a holiday where I’m completely absolved of responsibility.
Which — while lovely — is rare.
What if rest is also allowed to happen in the small, in-between moments?
What if we committed to honouring that space — not postponing it?
Maybe then we wouldn’t feel quite so much like we’re falling apart.
Exhausted by the everyday.
That said… an escape to Albion Nights is definitely high on my wish list.
Helen’s vision for the space is a true haven for creatives, with workshops alongside the cabin stays.
And honestly? Just being there for a few hours made me want to run away from home, move into a cabin and start a novel!
Until next week.
Wishing you all a wonderful weekend.
